Description
Balthazar Wine Department—Internship Guidelines
Balthazar Restaurant, located at 80 Spring Street (Btwn Crosby/Broadway) in the SoHo district of NYC, is looking for enthusiastic individuals interested in completing a THREE MONTH internship in our wine department. Hours are broken down as follows:
10am-3pm Monday –Friday.
Compensation: minimum wage.
Responsibilities include:
-Daily morning restocking
-Assist with incoming wine deliveries
-Assist in weekly wine list change
-Setting up for and assisting in distributor tastings and staff wine classes
-General administrative work pertaining to wine department
**
There are daily opportunities to blind taste wine with the department, as well as opport to attend industry tasting events, in-house wine classes, and meet and taste with over 60 importers and distributors.
**
Please note that this internship does require a fair amount of physical activity—you must be able to lift about 40lbs (or the weight of a case of wine) up and down stairs during restocking. Hand trucks are used to move larger amounts of wine between our cellars. Sturdy, non-slip shoes are required. Dress is casual, but clean (dark colors are recommended, as crates and boxes can be dirty)—remember, wine cellars are COLD!
**
Basic knowledge of wine is helpful--if you are currently enrolled in the WSET Intermediate Course or above, (or equivalent) and have a passion for wine, that is sufficient. Be prepared to immerse yourself in French wine. Balthazar showcases an ALL-FRENCH wine list.
